Locking Book safe with Key Lock Review

Locking Booksafe with Key Lock Review
Locking Book safe

Book diversion safes are becoming more popular because they won’t cost you an arm and a leg and will do a pretty good job of blending into the environment. Of course that all depends on where you place the safe.

If you have a lot of smaller valuable items and don’t like the idea of paying a few hundred dollars for a proper safe then purchasing a diversion safe would most likely be the best thing to do. The question is, is a book safe what you need?

Unlike many book safes which have been created from an actual real book this particular model has been created from scratch but it does have a much larger interior than most. The inside compartment measures 2 x 5.5 x 9 inches  and is certainly big enough for stashing things like a portable external hard drive, keys, SS cards, paper documentation and even jewellery.

Having said that remember that this is not designed for keeping thieves out, its primary purpose is to stay out of sight, to sort of blend in and be unnoticed. It is a safe of sorts but a very small one so if a burglar does spot it then there is nothing stopping them from just picking the whole thing up and walking away with it.

Just keep that in mind when deciding what to put in it and where to place it.

Locking Book safe Design

The actual interior is made of real metal and is pretty strong  and durable however the other materials for making the booksafe are not exactly of the strongest quality; lots of plastic and glue. The white plastic that makes the pages of the book do look fake and sort of stand out in an unnatural way when placed next to real books.

This is no different from many of the other book diversion safes on the market today. It is in its element when placed on a bookshelf among other books. If you have a bookshelf or a place where you stack your books then that is the best place for this safe.

So, this will not keep a determined burglar out and at closer inspection you can tell it’s not a real book. However, if concealed among other things, it should blend in reasonably well.

Some people prefer to just leave the thing out in the open for all to see. This also works as long as there is some additional camouflage involved.

So here is the ultimate test:

Booksafe Review
The Coffee Table Test

Will this safe pass off as a real book if left on a coffee table for all to see? As mentioned above the best place is hidden amongst other books facing inwards on a shelf.  I think it will pass a coffee table test as long as you can somehow hide the fake pages and also make it look like the book actually belongs there.

Pros

  • It is a good weight at just over 2 pounds and the interior size is larger than most book safes.
  • The title is generic and not something that will catch a burglar’s eye.
  • At a distance it does look like a real book.
  • The interior safe itself is pretty strong and made of metal.
  • The product comes with 2 keys

Cons

  • At close inspection the pages will be noticeable as being plain plastic.
  • Some customers have mentioned how the cover has peeled away a bit. This can be remedied with some glue.

Conclusion

It’s a good choice of books safe for the price. The plain white pages let it down a little but it makes up for that by having a larger interior. The fact that it is a dictionary means it would blend in at home and also in an office environment. A good addition to any other diversion safes you may have in your home.
