Stash Cans and How to Keep Your Money Safe
Stash cans of any design are such a simple and inexpensive product yet they can not only save you a lot of money but also give you peace of mind. If you look at any variety of diversion safe you would wonder how such an uncomplicated and small creation could possibly keep your money safe from thieves.
You can literally leave a stash book or a soda can safe out in the open for all to see and no one would suspect that you have any money hidden away in them. This is their strength.
Of course, most of these hidden compartment safes are fairly small and so if you have larger valuables that need protection then I would venture more towards looking for a “real” safe. Also, if you require fire or water protection then this range of products in not for you. For larger items check out a couple of our popular fire safes such as the SentrySafe SFW123DSB or the First Alert 2096DF.
I have noticed over the years that these stash safes are very popular buys as gifts. Around Christmas time these sell like mad and are given as gifts to husbands, wives, young kids at home, teenagers going to college and even the elderly.
The appeal is the simplicity of these things; and of course the very low prices. There are so many varieties of diversion safes it would take me too long to write one article about them; not to mention the fact that newer designs are being released on a regular basis!
For now, I will just focus on the can safe variety. There are quite a mix of different makes and models with the most popular being in the style of a soda can or spray can. There are many manufacturers creating these products but the three main companies would be “Diversion Stash Safes”, “Safety Technology” and “Southwest Speciality Products”.
Stash Cans Created From Real Products
All create their own style of mini safes some of which are actually manufactured from real cans. These are pretty amazing and when you hold one of these in your hand you are holding the real thing; with the interior modified into a hidden compartment to store small items.
These “real” stash safes look amazing but they do tend to have less room inside compared to a can safe that was totally manufactured from scratch. Another thing is that they tend not to be as durable mainly due to the fact that they were originally designed to be used and then thrown out. Having said that, the “real” can safes just look amazing and blend into their environment perfectly.
Where Would You Store The Stash Can?
You can actually have some fun with this because there really isn’t a place where these would look out of place. For example, if you had a soda can variety then you could quite easily put it in a fridge. Yes, you read that right! Fill up the interior compartment with your items and then put it in the back of the fridge. Now, what burglar in their right mind would take the time to rummage through your fridge for items to steal?
If you had one of the food cans then all you have to do is stack it in a cupboard amongst other “real” food cans. There are cleaning spray cans that would fit in well in a cupboard under the sink and there are also varieties disguised as shaving cream or hairspray cans. They would not look out of place in your bathroom.
Conclusion
If you have very little to spend and fireproofing is not an issue then purchasing a diversion safe would be a good choice. Of course, you also have the option to get a small safe some of which are fire protected.
If you have a lot of small items then you could even purchase a whole variety of different stash safes and have them hidden around your home. You won’t need to remember any passwords and you won’t need to remember where you hide the keys to the safe. It’s all good!
