The flash points of data files are lower as compared to paper so they will melt if just placed in an ordinary safe or storage.
Data security safes are stamped with a logo from the Underwriter’s Laboratory that identifies what class it belongs to, whether it is a class 125 or 150. This is where you must look at to make sure that your money won’t go to waste.
CDs, USBs and floppy disks need a fire rating class of 125 so that they can be protected from fire. Other storage devices such as films or VCRs need to be in a class of 150.
You must also know that not all fire data safes are water proof so you must look for ones that are also certified to protect your data from water. Another key feature that you should look for in your safe is it should be impact resistant. If it falls from a 30 foot raised area, it shouldn’t crumble to pieces.
