Gunvault GVB1000
Gunvault GVB1000 Mini Vault Biometric Gun Safe

The Gunvault GVB1000 is another addition to the quick access gun safe collection by this well known company. As with many modern safes it uses biometrics, specifically fingerprint recognition, to access the safe contents. These types of safes are popular with people who prefer simple and speedy access storage for their handgun.

This gun safe offers the safety features of the standard and deluxe models with the added benefit of the bio fingerprint scanner. Some of its features include, a 15 user capacity, a scanner that updates your finger after every touch and there are no key codes to remember.

As standard this GVB1000 safe provides some of the usual features that come with Gunvault safes such as their patented No-Eyes Keypad and interior foam layers.

Read more to find out what else this biometric gun safe has to offer.

Is This Biometric Gun Safe For You?

GunVault Logo

Over the years biometric safes have been considered to be the fastest way of getting into a safe compared to a combination safe or a key lock safe. With just a quick scan of your fingerprints the front lid will pop open within a few seconds allowing fast access to your handgun. Store a loaded firearm and have it accessible quickly.

I think with a fingerprint scanner you are either going to like it or hate it. Some people feel more comfortable with the old school combination style safe because these require a more hands on approach to unlocking it. This particular unit measures at 8.1 x 4.9 x 12 inches making it the perfect size for placing on a bedside table or somewhere in a nightstand.

If you have run through the unlikely scenario of needing rapid access to your gun in the middle of the night, you probably would either fumble the combination, forget the numbers or forget where you put the keys. You won’t have this problem with the Gunvault GVB1000 biometric gun safe.

If you have children in the house then you also want to keep them out of the safe. As long as you haven’t programmed their fingerprints into the system then there is absolutely no chance of them or anyone else getting into the safe.

For those of you who just want a plug and play style unit then you will be pleased to know that there is no complicated installation process. All it requires is the initial programming of your fingerprints. This is a simple process and is explained in the manual.

Gunvault GVB1000

Construction And Design

For its size you will find that this is a pretty sturdy gun safe. Admittedly, at 16-guage steel this won’t be the toughest small gun safe on the market but then its main purpose is to offer speedy access and basic security. A child won’t get into this unit but a determined thief with time and tools probably will. Of course if the safe is hidden that may also solve that issue.

If you are looking for the toughest small gun safe then you may want to read the gun safe review on the LockSAF PBS-001.

For extra security if you plan on keeping the safe in the open it would be advisable to bolt it down with the included hardware or purchase a special security wire cable that can be wrapped around something solid. The Gunvault GVB1000 biometric gun safe has a tamper-proof door due to its precise fittings making it virtually impossible to pry open without the right hand tools.

The door is spring loaded so as soon as the scanner has recognized your print the door will flip open saving you some valuable time in the event of an emergency.

The interior has some nice little touches such as the foam lining that is a soft base for all your contents. There is also a small interior courtesy light that will come in handy to make the contents more visible in case you need to gain access in the dark.

This gun safe does require a 9V battery, (not included).  You can use the battery as backup or use it primarily because there is also the option of using the external AC or DC power supply, (adapter included). This is handy to have in case of battery failure. If the battery is close to dying then there is a low battery light that will start to blink giving you fair warning.

Gun Safe Biometric Locking System

The biometric scanner works by placing your index finger over the scanner and hitting a small button with your middle finder to initiate the scan. This will only take a few seconds and once approved the spring loaded door pops open.

With the Gunvault patented No-Eyes Keypad this makes it easier for you to find the correct positioning of your fingers even in total darkness. One thing you have to understand with most biometric safes is that practice is needed to get used to the whole scanning process. This is a good idea because you never know when you will need to get into the safe.

For example, you may be woken up in the middle of the night after hearing noises and want to get to your gun fast. With practice you will be able to speed up the process of getting to your gun without any hiccups.

Some people complain about the efficiency of biometric safes. They say that sometimes it takes a few goes before the scanner actually approves the print. If you don’t have your finger oriented on the pad exactly as it was when you first saved your print the reading may be read as false. The Gunvault GVB1000 offers the opportunity to store many prints. You could save your print in several orientations. This will help increase your chances of a smooth entry.

This is something I would advise you to take advantage of as it will decrease the likelihood of a false reading. The system can handle a maximum of fifteen fingerprint templates.

PROS
  • Has a power adaptor included which can help you save money on batteries.
  • Is a very fast access unit. You will have your gun before a burglar even knows it.
  • Has a modern looking design so it won’t look too bad on the dresser.
CONS
  • Has 16-guage steel walls which is good enough for basic security but probably won’t hold up to a major battering. Again, if you just want to keep the kids out and the casual thief out then this will do just fine.

Conclusion

For those who need rapid and assured access with security in mind, this would probably be one of the best solutions. Getting into the safe is fast and simple.

It is not a high security safe and probably won’t hold up well in an intense house fire as it is not fireproof but for its main purpose, (basic household security and fast access), it does a pretty good job.

It has some nice little features and the included power adaptor is a big plus. A good buy for a user with a young family.

For the next level Gunvault gun safe take a look at the GunVault Multivault Biometric GVB2000 Series.

Gunvault MV500-STD Review | Portable & Tough Mini Gun Safe

Gunvault MV500-STD
 Gunvault MV500-STD

The Gunvault MV500-STD is a micro gun safe that is small and lightweight. It offers quick access to your gun and has a portable notebook style design.

It has a specific design to offer handgun owners a secure place to put their firearm when away from home or on the road. With its modern security features and sleek design this gun safe can be very easily tucked away in an RV or truck for use.

It is durable, big enough inside for a handgun or important documents and can offer a number of benefits. It isn’t the best portable gun safe I have reviewed but then for such a low price you do still get a well constructed unit.

Let’s take a look at what else it has to offer.

Who Can Benefit From The Gunvault MV500-STD?

As mentioned above this will be ideal for travel as it is a small safe at 11 x 8.5 x 2.25 inches and only weighs in at 5 pounds. You would use it to lock your firearm away and maybe slip the box under your seat so as you can drive safely and legally.

Gunvault MV500-STD Gun Safe

It also comes in handy for putting away other valuables that you may typically find in a vehicle such as a GPS unit, driving documents, cell phone, radar detector, etc.

If you are going somewhere that will not allow guns on the premises, (such as banks, libraries, hospitals), etc then you can fit the Gunvault MV500-STD under the seat of your vehicle with your gun secure inside.

Even if you do not use this gun safe for securing a firearm you can still keep your insurance and registration away from the potential thieves or other people who may have found access into your car. Of course, this is not only used as a portable unit.

This is a great little safe to have in the home also. You can keep a loaded pistol in your home knowing that if a self-defense situation was to arise you could retrieve your firearm relatively quick. At the same time, it would be inaccessible to any curious children in the home.

The Gunvault MV500-STD Gun Safe is essentially a light-use product, effective only for basic storage requirements in low pressure situations. For a slightly higher security gun safe take a look at the Gunvault GV2000C-STD.

Gunvault MV500-STD Lock

This mini gun safe will no doubt keep the younger kids out but may not create much of a challenge for a determined teenager. This of course does depend on the age of the child, how much time they have and how determined they are. If you have troublemaking teens in the home then I personally would buy a more high security gun safe just to be on the safe side. You just never know with kids.

I would not recommend this product if you need a highly secure  anti-theft device that would withstand serious theft attempts. A professional will get into this safe without much trouble. For additional security you could lock it away inside a larger safe, maybe one with fireproof and waterproof features.

Gunvault MV500-STD With Cable

The Gunvault MV500-STD Construction And Design

It has a security system based on a high strength lock mechanism, that makes tampering and theft very difficult. You can select from a possible 12 million access codes with a keypad that is conveniently located and highly user friendly.

The keypad is placed on top of the pistol safe in finger shaped indentations making it easy to use even if the room is dark. The unique No Eyes Keypad is a major advantage in a situation when the safe needs to be opened in the dark, (so as not to alert any intruders of where you are).

There is a great anti-tamper feature that will let you know with a beep, and flashing red LED, if an incorrect attempt to open the safe has been made since you locked it. Access will be blocked after repeated invalid keypad entries. A huge benefit for those of you with curious children.

The Gunvault MV500-STD is made of 18 gauge steel and covered with a black powder coating to give a rock solid construction. To keep your handgun and other valuables from being scratched in transit the safe has soft foam on the inside which can also keep the gun secure.

To add extra security I would mount the safe by bolting it to the floor or wall, etc. Even if you are planning on putting this in your vehicle you should still be able to find a strong spot to mount it. There are four pre-drilled holes on the bottom of the vault used for this purpose.

Additionally you can use the included steel cable to wrap around a seat and secure it that way. If a thief did get to your safe he/she could probably cut the cable with large bolt cutters and some time, but the chance of a smash and grab type theft is greatly reduced.

Conclusion

Ideally you would purchase this safe because you want to be able to have your gun loaded and ready with quick access and have it locked away safe from any unauthorized user, (especially curious kids).

The unit is very easy to open with one hand using the combination lock, and has a backup key lock if the battery dies. The No-Eyes keypad is very handy for getting into your safe fast while the lights are off.

The batteries are easy to install and setting up the code is also a very simple process. The Gunvault MV500-STD offers good value for money for the average user.

PROS
  • Perfect size and weight for portable use.
  • Offers very fast access to your gun in an emergency.
  • Has the unique No Eyes Keypad for access in the dark.
  • Good value for money.
CONS
  • The buttons feel a little mushy. You will need to press them more or less directly in the center.
  • The foam lining does not press tightly against thin pistols when closed. This can be solved by laying a folded cloth on top of the gun.

Features

  1. Extirior construction of 18-gauge steel.
  2. Soft foam on the inside protects valuables.
  3. High-Strength lock mechanism performs reliably.
  4. Precise fittings creating a pry-resistant.
  5. Built-in computer blocks access after repeated invalid entries.
  6. Comes with 4 ft. security cable.
  7. No-Eyes keypad.
  8. 1 Year limited warranty.

Specifications

  • Exterior Dimensions: 11 x 8.5 x 2.25 Inches.
  • Interior Dimensions: 10.45 x 6.5 x 2 Inches.
  • Weight: 5lbs

Stack-On GS-8 Gun Safe Review

Stack-On GS-8 Long Gun Safe
  Stack-On GS-8 Gun Safe

Ok, the Stack-On GS-8 gun safe is green and for some this may not be the ideal color but it does have an old school real safe look about it that I kind of like.

This is an economy safe for those of you who want good quality but don’t have a huge spending budget. It is not fireproof or waterproof but then that can be expected for such a low price tag.

It is designed to hold 8 long guns such as rifles and shotguns and can also be used to provide basic security for other valuables that you may have.

Considering its low price it does have some nice features such as a 3-number drill-resistant combination lock, hardened steel plate behind the lock, concealed hinges and 3 live action locking bolts.

Read this gun safe review to see what else it has to offer.

Who Needs The Stack-On GS-8 Gun Safe?

For starters, any long gun owner who likes the color green is sure to like this safe. If green isn’t your color then you may want to look at another safe because this gun safe is manufactured only in green.

This unit will benefit you if you have up to 8 long guns that need to be stored away somewhere safe. Maybe you have your guns spread out in different areas of your home and just want one secure home for them all.

If you have kids then keeping them away from access to your rifles and other firearms is probably one of your main priorities. The StackOn GS8 will provide a secure place to keep your guns and cannot be easily tampered with.

As mentioned above this gun safe is not fireproof.  Therefore anyone specifically looking for protection against a house fire or flooding will not find what they are looking for in this safe. It may hold up in a small fire and may protect against a certain amount of water but it has not been certified to do so.

Stack-On GS-8 Gun Safe Design And Construction

Stackon GS-8

Its dimensions are 12.4 x 15.5 x 53 inches giving it a fair amount of room for different sized guns. It has been designed to fit 8 long guns but of course that all depends on the size of the guns and what attachments they may have. Realistically speaking we can say that 6 long guns with various attachments will fit very comfortably inside with some space free.

You can fit any long gun in the safe of up to 52 inches but you will have to remove the top shelf for this. If you want the shelf to stay then you are looking at around 46 inches max gun length. Having said that the removable shelf is positioned in the back of the unit so longer guns can be stored in the front along the side walls.

The whole interior is fully carpeted with barrel rests and standoffs for storing scoped rifles allowing for better space utilization.

The Stack-On GS-8 Gun Safe looks and feels solid with its sides and back being made of heavy-gauge sheet steel and is welded at the corners and joints. It has a heavy duty door frame with a door that is at least 2 inches thick.

The unit offers pry-resistant protection with its concealed hinges providing greater security and a peace of mind knowing your guns cannot be got to that easily.

Its size and weight allow it to be installed in a wide variety of places. You may find that somewhere like the corner of a closet would be a good choice in order to prevent casual thieves from having room to try and pry it from the wall. With limited access to the sides and back even the most determined thief would think twice about having a go at breaking in.

As this Stack-On GS-8 Combination Safe is less than 200 lbs it would be advisable to have it anchored down. This is for safety as well as security as you may find that the gun safe will tip over with the door opened if not bolted down or anchored in some way.

Stack-On GS-8 Gun Safe Locking Mechanism

It uses a three number combination lock system that is drill-resistant with a hardened steel plate that is located behind the lock for greater security.

There are three live-action ram-tough locking bolts and 3 steel dead bolts that provide 6 locking points, top middle and bottom. The bolts are easily retracted and suspended by a swiveling handle in the center of the door. With this type of locking mechanism already you can see that it will take more than the casual thief with a small set of tools to get into this thing.

PROS
  • Has a tough drill-resistant locking system.
  • The interior carpeting adds to the overall style of the safe.
  • Requires no batteries or external power supply.
CONS
  • The combination can’t be chosen, you are stuck with the factory setting.

Conclusion

The StackOn GS-8 is a definite contender in the long gun safe collection. It is sturdy enough to offer just the right security for home and very simple to use with its combination lock.

A good choice for anyone with up to 8 long guns who prefers combination safes over digital safes. It is small enough to hide away in a closet somewhere and can be bolted down for added security. A no frills, good all around gun safe for a low price.

Features

  1. California DOJ-approved firearms safety device that meets the requirements of California Penal Code Section 12088.
  2. 3 live action locking bolts.
  3. 3-number drill-resistant combination lock with.
  4. Hardened steel plate behind the lock provides greater security.
  5. Fully carpeted interior with barrel rests and standoffs for storing scoped rifles allow for better space utilization.
  6. A removable, carpeted shelf is included for added storage.
  7. Shelf is positioned in the back of the unit so longer guns can be stored in the front along the side walls.
  8. Exterior has a hunter green matte paint finish with gold accents and silk-screen on the door.
  9. 1 Year limited warranty.

Specifications

  • Exterior Dimensions: 12.4 x 15.5 x 53 inches.
  • Capacity: 4.2ft.
  • Weight: 113lbs.

Barska Biometric Safe Review

Barska Biometric Safe

The Barska Biometric Safe is one of the best gun safes on the market so far. It is getting a phenomenal amount of praise from previous customers and seen as a great buy for anyone looking for a gun safe that allows fast access for owners and good basic security.

No codes to remember! No keys to lose! Just touch your finger to the scanner and within seconds the safe door is open. What you have here is a tough yet compact home safe that can store all kinds of items including small firearms.

This is something more and more people are looking for when buying a safe. Getting to your gun as speedy as possible can mean the difference between safety or getting hurt, if an intruder has broken into your home.

For a small safe it has a good sized interior at 16.25 x 7 x 14.25 inches certainly big enough for storing many small items. It offers a pretty reliable biometric system and a heavy gauge build to deter thieves.

Who Is The Barska Biometric Safe Designed For?

There are many different reasons why people own guns. Probably the most common reasons would be for hunting, target practice and of course self defense. Before buying a gun safe you need to ask yourself what your main reason is for owning a gun as this will help you decide whether this safe is right for you or not.

For example, if your primary reason is for self defense then you would most likely need to be able to get to your gun in a hurry. That would mean owning a safe that has a fast opening door preferably one that pops open on its own, (which this particular safe does). Also, due to the fast opening capabilities of biometric safes they tend to be hugely advantageous when it comes to securing a gun for defense reasons.

Owning a firearm is a great responsibility and a big part of that responsibility is making sure you have a safe and secure place to put your weapon when it is not in use. Before biometric safes, or fingerprint scanners, were ever designed, gun owners would have to put their guns away in the old style combination and key lock safes.

These too are great safes and are still very popular, but if your main reason for having a gun in the home is self defense, then you really need to be looking at a biometric gun safe. This is because of one massive advantage. You never have to worry about remembering any codes, combinations or where you left the keys.

If you are someone who isn’t a fan of memorizing combinations or code numbers then the Barska Biometric Safe is a good choice. If you are in an emergency situation the last thing you want is to try to remember a combination to your safe!

Do you have kids who like to play around with new things in the home? With a biometric safe you decide who has their fingerprints scanned into the memory. This means that if your child hasn’t had their prints memorized then there is no chance of them ever getting into the safe.

This is not designed to be a high security safe due to its size and weight. Nor is it fireproof or waterproof. For added security you can bolt it down to the floor or wall which will certainly prevent any casual burglar from walking away with it and its contents.

Fingerprint Safes
Barska Biometric Safe Construction And Design

It measures 16.5 x 7.75 x 14.5 inches and weighs in at weighs 31 pounds. It would be considered a medium sized safe but is extremely compact and can be stored in many places. It is roomy inside and big enough to hold 2 full size and one small handgun with ammunition and still have room for other valuables.

As well as other than guns and ammo you can store a variety of other important items such as jewelry, cell phones, cameras, money, etc. You can store documents if you wish but just remember that in the event of a full house fire these items probably won’t be protected. For irreplaceable documents I would invest in a fireproof and waterproof safe.

The fingerprint scanner on the Barska Biometric Safe is very easy to set up. The advanced technology of it allows up to 30 fingerprints to be stored. This means no memorizing combinations or fumbling around for keys. Simply touch the scanner with your finger and 3 seconds later you’re in.

Just so you know, the print reader is quite picky, (which is a good thing). To help with better recognition the best thing to do is program a 2nd or third print of the same finger but at slightly different angles. This will help speed up the recognition process.

Also, it would be smart to capture prints of a couple of fingers on both hands, just in case you have an injury to one hand. Thirty fingerprints can be stored so you may as well use up the full thirty options. Maybe as a precaution scan someone else’s fingerprints a couple of times just in case you are not in the house to open the safe. Of course these fingerprints would belong to someone you trust such as your wife, husband, adult son or daughter, etc.

Barska Biometric Safe
Other Barska Biometric Safe Extras

If for any reason you cannot get into the safe, for example maybe the print reader doesn’t recognize your fingerprint or the batteries run out, there is no need to panic. This Barska safe comes with special keys that allow you to get into the safe in the event that there is a malfunction with the electronics or something.

It is not a quick release system for emergencies as the key lock is located behind the silver plate on the front of the safe which needs to be removed with an allen key. Maybe not a speedy entrance but at least you are not left with a locked safe and no way of getting in.

You may find that there is a loud beep sound when the door is opened. For some, this will be an annoyance and for others it is just what they need. There are advantages and disadvantages of having a beep sound off every time the safe door is opened. You really need to decide for yourself whether this would be a problem for you or not.

Some may think that a beeping sound would alert any intruder to their position. Others will be glad for the beep because if their kids touch the safe lock the alarm will sound and no doubt the child won’t be touching that again!

A definite advantage is if left unlocked after opening, the Barska Biometric Safe will start beeping at about 5 second intervals. Before this occurs there will be a 2 to 3 minute delay.

Conclusion

This really is a great gun safe and you will have a hard time trying to find any faults with it. Barska have really thought of everything. The price may seem like a lot for such a small safe but the quality of its build and its well thought out features and benefits really do make for a top product worth every penny.

For assurance of the quality of this Barska safe you only need to read through some of the reviews written by actual owners to really appreciate its uniqueness. Unlike other big security safe companies Barska have created only a handful of safes and I think this is to their advantage because they have been able to focus 100% on those few safes making them the best they can be. This in turn pleases consumers because they know they are purchasing a quality product that has been well researched before its mass production for the public.

The finger portal lights up where you put your finger which is absolutely essential in instances where you don’t want to turn on the room lights. For extra security I would bolt the safe down by using the pre-drilled holes so that it can be easily mounted to a wall or attached to a shelf or counter top.

All in all there are cheaper biometric safes out there but to tell you the truth the price really isn’t that bad for the quality product that this safe is.

How To Register A Fingerprint On Your Barska Safe

Registering your Barska Biometric Safe is a really simple process and just takes a few seconds to set up. Follow the easy steps below:

  1. Push and release the internal registration button. This is located on the inside back edge of the safe, (Fig 1).
  2. Then hold your finger over the biometric sensor at the front of the safe. You will hear a beep and then two more beeps after that. After the last beep remove your finger from the sensor.
  3. Your fingerprint has successfully been stored.

If you hear two short beeps and the red LED starts to flash then this means that the scan was not a success. Repeat the process.

In order to scan multiple fingerprints on this Barska gun safe,(up to 30), repeat the process from step 1.

StackOn PS514
Stack-On PS-514 Gun Safe

The Stack-On PS-514 is a small safe that is becoming more popular especially due to the fact that its price has been lowered. Now, there is no negative reason why this safe has such a low pricing. In fact, you will have trouble finding any cons at all which makes this safe a bargain compared to others in its price range.

It is primarily a gun safe but can also be used to store a number of other items. It is California firearms approved, is made of solid steel and is very easy to operate. You know those safes you find in hotel rooms? Well, this is like one of those but better designed and with a whole lot more features.

Let’s go through what else this gun safe has to offer.

Who Would Benefit From Having A Stack-On PS-514 Safe?

Firstly, this is not a “High”security safe. It is a theft safe for a more basic security. This small safe is perfect for keeping your day to day valuables or your hand guns in one place and will deter any casual burglars, guests, friends and children from getting to the contents.

However, if you are specifically on the look-out for an Anti-Theft design then I would think it best you searched for a safe designed for that purpose. There are many of these on the market but expect to pay much more than the price of this safe.

The Stack-On PS-514 will keep out kids or an opportunistic thief, (especially if you bolt it down), but isn’t going to stop someone with a little more experience, time and with the right tools.

If you are looking for an uncomplicated security box that is very easy to use and is just the right size to fit inside something like a kitchen cabinet, then the PS-514 would be a good choice. It will provide ample space for personal things like jewelry, passports, keys, checkbooks, wallet and of course handguns.

Besides the handgun, it wouldn’t be unknown to find many of these items just sitting around in a person’s drawer somewhere. We need to be aware of how venerable our belongings are when left out in the open. It would be so easy for a thief to just swipe those items with a blink of an eye.

For protecting your possessions against a house fire you will need to look into buying a fireproof safe. This product has not been designed for fire safety in mind.

Stack-On PS-514 Interior

The Stack-On PS-514 Construction And Design

This is a strong home safe and perfectly adequate for providing basic security for your possessions. It has a good locking mechanism consisting of 2 live locking bolts in the front edge of the door and has a simple method for re-setting the combination. With an easy 8 digit code it’s very fast to open which will certainly be handy in an emergency.

If for any reason, there is a problem with opening the safe door, (e.g. dead batteries), do not panic because as a precaution this model comes with keys that will open the safe using a hidden key lock.

There is an LED light that comes on to let you know that the batteries are beginning to get low so there generally shouldn’t be any issues with unlocking the door. Just make sure the override keys are also kept in a secure place preferably away from the safe itself.

If you have read some of the reviews on the Barska Biometric Safe then you will appreciate the option to turn off the default beeping sound whenever the door is opened. Some of you will prefer to keep the beeping sound switched off and with the Stack-On PS-514 you will have the option to do so.

A removable shelf comes with the unit that would come in handy for storing ammunition and other accessories. If you are not keeping guns then the shelf is a good way of keeping certain valuables neat and in order.

For additional security it would be a good idea to bolt the safe to either the floor or a wall. It has available pre-drilled mounting holes in the bottom and at the back which will make securing a lot easier.

Even though this safe offers basic security to deter burglars it does have a pry-resistant door featuring concealed hinges. This will prevent any attempt at breaking in through the door using prying tools such as a crowbar. A very beneficial feature.

Conclusion

This Stack-On PS-514 gun safe has some nice features offering quite a few benefits to anyone looking to store their handgun or valuables. As mentioned above, it does provide a more basic security so if you are worried about intruders then a higher security safe may suit you best.

It’s a nice medium to small size for hiding it away somewhere and is also still roomy enough inside to get quite a few things in there. For this price, you cannot go wrong especially with the free shipping that is offered to all Amazon buyers.

Not a fireproof or waterproof safe and not used to deter professional thieves but does have concealed hinges which for any safe is an added bonus. Four AA batteries are supplied with this unit which is also a nice little bonus.

PROS
  • Very quick set up. Just insert the batteries, punch in your code and your ready to go.
  • The bypass key a very handy to have in case you forget your pass code and the safe locks you out.
  • It is a solid, heavy build made of steel.
  • The price is unbeatable for this type of safe.
  • It has a lot of storage space for a safe of that size.
  • The beeping can be turned off if you don’t want someone to hear you opening the safe.
  • The inside has a padded surface, so your contents don’t get scratched.
CONS
  • The interior lining or padding is a good idea but its quality could be a little better. Not a problem for many as additional material can be easily placed on top.
  • Plastic handle can be a bit difficult to grip because it’s slippery.

Features

  1. California DOJ-approved firearms safety device that meets the requirements of California Penal Code Section 12088.
  2. Solid steel pry resistant plate doors.
  3. 2 Steel live locking bolts.
  4. Concealed hinges to provide greater security.
  5. Easy to use electronic lock keypad.
  6. Comes with override key.
  7. Has a time out period after three incorrect code attempts.
  8. Quick access electronic lock includes an LED warning light.
  9. Electronic beep sound can be turned on or off.
  10. Combination changes is a simple proccess.

Gunvault GV2000C-STD

Gunvault GV2000C-STD Gun Safe

This Gunvault GV2000C-STD has to be one of the premium gun safes produced by the Gunvault Company. The company themselves have been around for 20 years and over those years they are constantly testing and improving their range.

Just by looking at this model you can tell that it is a quality product and that in itself can be a deterrent for the casual thief. Of course, looks isn’t everything and with this pistol safe that certainly isn’t the case as it also has a ton of great features which will benefit the owner.

Some of these features include a tamper resistant door with such a precise fitting that it would be a time consuming task to pry it open with basic tools. Also, there are various indicators and alerts to warn the owner of any problems such as an incorrect code.

Take a look at the review below as it runs through all the safes features pointing out the good and bad areas.

Who Will Benefit From Owning A Gunvault GV2000C-STD?

The simple and quick answer to that would be anyone who owns a couple of handguns and needs to secure them away from curious children or an opportunist thief. Anyone who has a lot of small valuables and needs somewhere secure to house them would also greatly benefit from this Gunvault safe.

This is not only a safe for guns and ammo. It was designed to protect your possessions  regardless of what they are. If they fit in the safe then you can rest assured they will be secure. It is not a “High” security safe meaning it probably won’t keep a professional thief out but due to its tight fitting door it will keep out a casual thief with no tools and little time.

Before buying a gun safe ask yourself why you need one. Do you just want a place to keep all your handguns in one orderly place? Are you concerned about your child finding your gun as so need to secure it out of reach? Is your main priority self-defense? Each answer could point you to a variety of different gun safes.

For the Gunvault GV2000C-STD it comes into its own regarding self-defense. If you are being burgled and want to protect yourself and your family you’re going to need to get to your gun fast. That requires a simple coding system, (Gunvault’s no-eyes keypad), and a fast opening door, (Gunvault spring-loaded door).

No need to worry about your child getting into the safe because when the programmable combination system is used properly it will keep young children out yet still allow access with the combination in seconds.

The Gunvault GV2000C-STD Construction And Design

The outside of the gun safe is constructed of 16-gauge steel. In layman’s terms, Steel is sheet metal and that thickness is called its gauge. The gauge of sheet metal ranges from 30 gauge to about 8 gauge. The larger the gauge number, the thinner the metal.

So as far as thickness goes for this safe it has roughly a middle gauge which is not bad at all considering its price. It has a size of 10.1 x 7.9 x 14 inches and weighs in at 14 pounds. This particular “Multi” version is big enough to take two medium sized semi-automatics with extra magazines and other extras.

With the weight not being so heavy you can take this Gunvault GV2000C-STD away with you in an RV if you decide to do some traveling. It would definitely benefit anyone who needs that peace of mind and safety when traveling in their vehicle. This option is also found to be so in the Barska Biometric Safe.

Find somewhere solid to mount the safe even in a truck or trunk of a car and you will have yourself a portable gun safe. To protect your firearms or valuables from getting scratched or damaged in transit there is a soft foam layer on the inside. I think that is a nice little touch which also adds to the quality of this design.

As an added bonus there is a shelf inside so that you can keep the contents more organized such as having one shelf for the gun and the other for your important documents or other valuables.

The Gunvault GV2000C-STD Foolproof Security

This gun safe has pry-resistant doors due to its precise fittings which make it virtually impossible to pry open with hand tools. The locking mechanism is of high strength and performs reliably.

There is a built-in computer which will detect repeated invalid keypad entries which in turn will block access. If there were invalid entry attempts the built-in tamper indicator will alert you and if you had the Deluxe model a motion detector with audio alarm would help guard against direct tampering.

This Gunvault safe can pretty much be mounted anywhere and in any direction. This is highly advisable to do as it adds that extra bit of security and will prevent anyone from walking away with the safe. Its knockout holes in the bottom can be used to permanently affix it to something solid without much trouble. You also have the option to use the high-strength security cable which will secure the safe in your home, car, RV, office, etc.

The Gunvault GV2000C-STD Extras

It seems like Gunvault have thought of everything as it has a unique No-Eyes Keypad which allows for quick access. The molded channels facilitate the ability to unlock this safe by touch in low light conditions. Not a bad idea.

You have battery power which will provide maximum security and easy portability. There is a power adaptor option on the Deluxe model but even so, you must still keep a set of batteries in the unit. This is only to keep the power going if you decide to remove and replace the power plug. The batteries are a safety precaution so as to keep your programmed code in memory. If you unplug the safe without the batteries the combination code will reset to default.

There are a couple of audio features that offer more options to the user. One is an audio feedback which confirms each correct keypad entry and the other is an audio disable option which adds the security of operating in silent mode.

Conclusion

This Gunvault GV2000C-STD and the Deluxe model have been around for a few years now and are still part of the company’s best sellers. With its many features and slick design you can see the reasons why.

It is well built, has interior protection for the contents and even though it is classed as a medium to small gun safe you can fit a fair few items into it without much trouble.

It is easy to use and has a fast door opener which is a big plus for anyone wanting to get to their gun fast in an emergency. It has its faults like any safe but generally they are not really worth worrying about.

PROS
  • Fast and easy access for anyone in an emergency situation.
  • Large enough for 3 handguns, some ammo, magazines, documents, cash and other small items.
  • It is easy to set up and program.
  • It can be made portable and bolted to most surfaces.
  • A pretty low price tag considering the quality of this unit.
CONS
  • There is no weak battery warning. Not really a problem if you check the operation monthly.
  • If it isn’t bolted down a thief will be able to walk off with it.

Features

  1. Spring-loaded door for quick access to contents.
  2. Corrosion resistant powder coat finish.
  3. No-Eyes Keypad.
  4. Back-up key lock access with two keys.
  5. Security Sleep Mode in case of unauthorized keypad entries.
  6. Knock holes for mounting.
  7. Option to add a security cable.
  8. 1 Year limited warranty.

Programming The Gunvault GV2000C-STD Access Code

With this Gunvault safe when setting up your new code there will be a beeping sound and a light flash with every keypad entry. This just helps to indicate that your choice has been registered. Here are the steps to follow in order to program a new code.

  1. First, you must enter the default access code to open the door.
  2. Locate the learn button, (Fig 1), press and hold for 2 seconds until you hear the beep. This indicates that the safe is in Learn Mode.
  3. Enter your new code.  While the light remains green press and hold the Learn button once more until you hear a beep and the light turns red.
  4. Enter your new code again and to confirm it hold the Learn button down once more for 2 seconds.
  5. At this point the green light will blink five times with five beeping sounds. This confirms that your new code has been accepted.

If you notice a red light blinking then this means an error has occurred and you will have to start over.

Gunvault GV1000C-DLX Gun Safe Review

Gunvault GV1000C-DLX
Gunvault GV1000C-DLX Gun Safe

This Gunvault GV1000C-DLX is another popular model from the portable compact safe range. It is an upgrade to Deluxe from the standard C model and as with most of the Gunvault safes; this comes with quite a few nice little features.

All Deluxe models, such as this one, have interior lighting, a motion detector and an AC external power supply.

Some people may confuse this with a biometric safe or fingerprint scanner safe. With its modern looking finger-pad or No-Eyes keypad, that is an easy mistake to make. But in fact the locking mechanism is actually activated by pressing the right combination of buttons on the pad. Just as quick and easy but a little different.

Let’s take a closer look at this safe.

Who Can Benefit From The Gunvault GV1000C-DLX?

Gunvault GV1000-DLX Fingerpad

For those of you with young children and even those of you who don’t have children, you understand the concerns of accidental shootings within the home. Every year there are reports of children finding their parents gun in a drawer somewhere and playing with it until it accidentally goes off in their face.

Firearms need to be safely and securely locked away regardless of whether you have children in the home or not. You will specifically need a gun safe that would allow you to store a handgun in the bedroom in a safe manner but still would allow for quick access.

If your gun isn’t on your hip, then it should be safely stored in a gun safe, particularly if you’ve got kids who might get a hold of it inappropriately. You will need a safe that is made of strong materials and is small enough to tuck away from site yet big enough to store a good sized handgun and its ammo.

The Gunvault GV1000C-DLX mini vault offers all of this and a little more. It is aimed squarely at safe storage for a single pistol that can be got to quickly in an emergency. This is a good choice for any prospective buyer of a quick access gun safe.

Gunvault GV1000D-DLX
Gunvault GV1000D-DLX Construction And Design

The exterior of the vault is constructed from 16 gauge steel putting it just below mid range for toughness in small safes as a whole. As a small or portable mini vault this Gunvault range can be considered one of the toughest. As with all the mini vault safes this Deluxe model before it has been designed and fitted to ensure that it is nearly impossible to pry open with hand tools.

As mentioned above, this is not meant for storing a collection of handguns. It is a compact unit and therefore designed to accommodate one or two guns with ammo. This is fairly important because if an emergency arises you are going to need to get to your gun fast. This means keeping your safe organized and uncluttered.

At 8.1 x 4.9 x 12 inches it is small enough to keep on a shelf or in a top compartment of a cupboard somewhere without taking up too much space, and big enough to hold a full-size semi-auto and a compact revolver. Depending on the model of the gun of course.

To add an even higher level of security the Gunvault GV1000C-DLX mini vault has knockout holes in the bottom to permanently affix it to something solid. I would highly recommend this as a determined thief with enough time could walk off with the whole safe, contents and all. This will never happen if you take the time to mount and bolt it to the floor.

There is also an optional high-strength security cable that comes with this model which secures the gun safe in the home, car, RV, office or motel, etc. It is mountable in any direction. I personally would use this in addition to mounting the safe. Better to be over prepared than unprepared.

Gunvault GV1000C-DLX Lock And Extra Features

The locking mechanism is High-Strength and performs reliably. There is no need to worry if you are not electronically minded as the programming is very simple to set up. The “Learn buttons” make it easy to program over 12 million user-selectable access codes. All is explained in the user manual.

The Gunvault patented No-eyes keypad allows for fast access to your weapon even in total darkness which may happen to be the case in an emergency. Because of the shaped out grooves your fingers will find the buttons very easily and very fast.

It is also fitted with a motion detection alarm should someone try to move your safe whilst armed. Another feature is the audio feedback which lets you know when a correct key has been pressed. There is also an audio disable option should you need to access the safe without alerting others.

A tamper indicator and its inbuilt computer will block access after repeated invalid keypad entries.  A very cool feature especially if a burglar or even your child has a go at trying to figure out the code.

The Gunvault GV1000C-DLX portable safe runs off eight AA batteries and also the option to switch to the AC adapter if you hate buying batteries. One thing I will note. The batteries can be a little tricky to put in but with a little practice it won’t be a big deal. Also, the batteries probably won’t need to be changed that often. The audio low battery warning should help with this.

To prevent any of your handguns or valuables from being scratched there is a soft foam on the inside. Additionally, Gunvault also had the good sense to add an interior courtesy light which I think is a nice little touch to an already full featured gun safe.

Conclusion

Gunvault is well known for making high quality products aimed at ensuring safe and secure weapon storage and this Gunvault GV1000C-DLX is no exception.

As with all safes this isn’t without its little teething problems but with its strong build, tough locking mechanism, fast access keypad and much more you can’t ask for a better gun safe in this price range.

You have the option of buying the standard versions from this particular mini vault range but to be honest I would pay the extra to get the deluxe model. The extra little features like the included AC adaptor and in-built light all make a difference in the overall quality of this item.

PROS
  • Very solid construction.
  • Lots of nice extra features to make it a more quality item.
  • Easy to program and use. You don’t need to be an electronics expert to work it!
  • Very fast opening which is vital in an emergency.
CONS
  • The battery compartment could’ve been better designed although this won’t be an area that is used regularly.

Features

  1. Conveniently located keypad is easy to use.
  2. Unique No-Eyes Keypad allows for quick access.
  3. Audio feedback confirms each correct keypad entry.
  4. Audio disable option adds the security of operating in silent mode.
  5. “Learn buttons” make it easy to program over 12 million user selectable access codes.
  6. Foam lining inside to protect the firearm or other valuables.
  7. Tamper indicator alerts invalid entries.
  8. Pry-resistant door.
  9. Has an AC external power unit.
  10. 1 Year limited warranty.

Specifications

  • Dimensions: 8.1 x 4.9 x 12 inches.
  • Power Supply: 8 x AA Batteries.
  • Weight: 9lbs.

Motion Detection And Alarm Features Of The Deluxe Model

This Gunvault GV1000C-Deluxe Model has a couple of very important extra features that add to the quality of this safe. It is equipped with a motion detector and an audio alarm. All you have to do is set up the vault so that it is in motion detector and alarm modes. Once this is done this safe will protect its contents if either one of the following occurs:

  1. If someone punches in 24 wrong entries into the keypad in succession.
  2. If the safe is moved or disturbed. So once the safe has been set to detection and alarm mode any shock, vibration or movement of any kind will set off the alarm. You have a short period of time to enter a valid code into the system, (refer to the user manual). If you do this within the allocated timeframe then the alarm will stop.

SentrySafe G0135 Long Gun Safe

SentrySafe G0135 Long Gun Safe

The SentrySafe G0135 is a gun cabinet that has the capacity for 5 long guns. It will offer protection for rifles, shotguns and any other type of long gun.

In all honesty this is more of a very tough gun cabinet rather than a gun safe. Safes are usually synonymous with having thick metal exteriors and very heavy in weight.

That is not the case here and that is understandable seeing as the price of this unit is just under $200. Long gun cabinets in general are not going to be as tough as safes if they sell for such an affordable price.

This long gun safe or long gun cabinet will offer a certain amount of security and for some people this is sufficient. Look at the reasons why you need a cabinet such as this because sometimes all some people want is a place to keep their guns organized.

Read the rest of the review below to find out if this is the safe for you.

Who Will Benefit From The SentrySafe G0135 Gun Safe?

Getting straight to the point, this is not a fireproof or waterproof safe. It wasn’t designed to withstand a house fire or a flood. Its main purpose is to keep your guns locked away safely after use. A very useful item to have in your home if you have a number of long guns that need to be stored away

SentrySafe G0135

After a day hunting or shooting at the gun range your firearms need a safe and secure place to be stowed away. Putting your rifle on the top shelf of the bedroom closet isn’t going to cut it. This is especially so if you have children in the house.

The G0135 will do a good job of keeping out the kids and will also keep out the casual burglar but remember this is not a high security safe. With enough time and the right tools a person can break in. If you need a long gun safe that is designed more for anti-theft then you may want to look at the more high-end gun safes available.

You can easily add extra security by hiding the SentrySafe G0135 Long Gun Safe in a closet. Believe it or not, regarding its size, this safe is just long enough to fit into a closet underneath the rod that you hang your clothes on. No D.I.Y needed.

With it locked away in your bedroom closet you could have your long guns close at hand as well as any personal defense firearms you may have. This safe will suit those looking for organized long gun storage, easy and fast access and basic security.

SentrySafe G0135 Key Lock

SentrySafe G0135 Design And Construction

For its low pricing this is a surprisingly tough and well constructed long gun cabinet that comes equipped with a solid steel door attached with concealed hinges. With the hinges hidden this will make breaking into the safe a massive and noisy task.

An intruder won’t be looking at a simple lift and pull prying method here! The thick, heavy gauge metal and the fact that the door is recessed and reinforced with two vertical U-channels will certainly keep the casual burglar at bay.

You are likely to find that the steel used is much thicker and sturdier than what you would typically find on a gun cabinet. For much thicker, stronger and heavier construction you would have to spend more money for the high-end models.

The locking mechanism has two live-locking steel bolts one at the top and one at the bottom. There is an eight-lever security key with a double-bit key that will make lock-picking a major task for even the most experienced of pickers. To boost security and peace of mind you can mount and secure the SentrySafe G0135 to a wall, the floor or both. This is highly recommended in order to increase its security.

There are pre-drilled holes and the mounting hardware comes with the unit so there is no need to go looking around your local D.I.Y store for gear. Mounting instructions are included with the product so even the least handy of people can bolt this thing to a wall or floor without much trouble.

SentrySafe G0135 Storage

SentrySafe G0135 Safe Long Gun Storage

As mentioned above this gun safe or gun cabinet has a 5 long gun capacity with a fixed rack designed for one of them to be a scoped long gun. So five standard rifles with no large attachments should fit without much trouble at all. However, if you happen to have larger scopes and other attachments fitted to all your rifles, that capacity is almost halved.

Depending on the size of your gun it may be that any accessories that hang off the side of your weapons are going to get in the way of the gun next to it. Something to take note of if your rifles do carry some extras.

At the top of the SentrySafe G0135 Gun Safe there is a small shelf that is also carpeted to prevent any unnecessary scratching. There is a gap at the back of the shelf to the back of the safe which allows the tops of the guns to poke through. This is a great idea but does also make the shelf space quite limited. However you will still find enough room to store some ammo and maybe a handgun or two.

Conclusion

This is a sleek and stylish looking item and certainly a lot tougher than your standard gun cabinet. If you were to put this thing in the living room it probably would blend in with the rest of the furniture. Then again, I wouldn’t actually have the safe out in the open in full view.

There is some debate as to whether the SentrySafe G0135 is in fact a gun safe or a gun cabinet. I personally doubt that it really matters. If the product does what you want it to do then who cares what the right title is!

If you are looking for a simple and affordable means of securing your rifles, shotguns and other long guns then this is certainly one of the safes you should be looking at. It does have some tiny flaws but considering the low price these are to be expected. This thing will keep your kids out and your guns in. A good choice for first time gun safe buyers.

PROS
  • Has a good locking system. Comes with 2 double-bit keys.
  • Is a good size for hiding away in closets.
  • Has a very tough outer layer. It may not be super tough but certainly enough to keep the casual intruder out.
  • Can’t go wrong with such a low price.
CONS
  • The shelf is a bit unsteady but this can be secured with some very basic d.i.y.
  • You won’t get 5 rifles in their spaces if they all have large scopes. Not a major issue, just take the scopes off.

Bolt and Mounting Instructions for the SentrySafe G0135

It is highly recommended that you find a good permanent spot for your safe and bolt it to either the floor or wall. Below are the basic instructions to help set up the safe for mounting.

  1. Once you have found a suitable area for your safe just use the pre-drilled holes at the bottom of the safe and at the back of the safe to mark their position. If you plan on mounting to the wall then you need to make sure the unit is firmly planted on the ground.
  2. Once you have marked the holes move the safe aside and drill the holes out using the correct size drill bits.
  3. Now just place the unit back into position and bolt it down with the hardware provided.

Who Will Benefit From This Safe?

This gun safe will be a very useful item for those who have a collection of large guns and need one place to keep them all organized and secure. It will provide peace of mind knowing that whether you are in your home or away, your guns will be safe. If you need your guns for hunting, recreational shooting or home defense keeping them in one place would be beneficial.

SentrySafe G1459E Long Gun Safe

With an interior of 58.7 x 20.7 x 12.9 inches this will allow you to not only store away guns but also other large items such as swords, martial arts weapons or a compound bow and arrow. The SentrySafe G1459E doesn’t have to be limited to only gun storage.

Of course long gun storage is its main purpose and it can hold up to 14 rifles or shotguns. This will depend on the size of each individual gun. The full capacity of 14 long guns may seem overstated for some of you if you have most or all of your rifles fitted with scopes.

In these circumstances I would maybe lower the capacity to 8 or 9 but that is still a good number to store away. If you have 14 long rifles all with some kind of optics attached then you may find that they won’t all fit. Scoped guns can be turned to the side so they rest on the rail. Alternatively, you could get scope rails installed.

The SentrySafe G1459E offers quick access to your guns while also keeping them secure  from intruders. IF you hate fiddling around with combination locks then you should find the electronic locking system a breeze. It uses a simple code that just needs to be punched into the keypad to unlock the door in seconds.

If your primary objective is to keep your children from having access to your firearms then you will find that this long gun safe will do just that. Unless your child has a heavy metal cutter handy then I seriously doubt they have any chance of getting in this thing.

One more important note before we look at the build of the safe. As mentioned above, this is not a fireproof or waterproof safe. It wasn’t designed for this purpose. If you require a long gun safe that has fireproofing and waterproofing then you will have to pay a fair bit extra. However, as with all safes, it will be an investment that will actually save you money if a fire does break out. Something to think about especially for those with more permanent addresses.

SentrySafe G1459E Electronic Keypad

Construction And Design

Unlike some safes on the market today this presents itself to be more high-end and exquisite. It has quite a nice exterior design with its basic but smart furnishings and bright chrome and satin color combination. You could have this long gun safe tucked away in your living room and it wouldn’t stand out as much as you would think.

It is nicely constructed; however some of you may find that the walls are thinner than expected. I don’t see this as a major flaw especially if you decide to hide the safe away and also bolt it to the floor. All this helps add that little extra security to an already strong unit.

It will keep the kids out and give a potential burglar a difficult task of trying to break in while the police are on their way. You will find that thicker walls come with the fireproofed versions because they have to allow for the padding. As mentioned above, these will cost more.

The SentrySafe G1459E is quite heavy at just under 200lbs. This is actually a good thing because it will prevent burglars from tipping it over or carrying it away.  The solid steel door has concealed hinges making it pry-resistant regardless of what tools are used. Inside the door there is an additional hardened steel plate that will protect against any drill attacks to the lock.

The interior has been professionally carpeted and has very little chance of peeling. The carpeting will protect your rifles from being scratched which is very useful especially if your guns are worth a lot of money or if they are collector’s items.

If you have smaller items such as handguns, ammo or other items, you can place them on the adjustable top shelf. There should be ample room up there.

SentrySafe G1459E Interior

Locking Mechanism And Security

For a strong locking system this gun safe has heavy duty 3 dead bolts and 3 steel live locking bolts at the top, center and bottom of the door.

For any thief planning on drilling their way into the safe they will come across the drill-resistant solidified steel plate that will no doubt stop them in their paths. A nice little touch I thought. The lock is digital or electronic, and has a keypad on the door above the handle.

Four AA batteries will have to be placed into the keypad allowing you two ways to program the 5 digit code. A back up key is provided in case you forget the code and the instructions are included so it really is not a difficult process at all.

SentrySafe G1459E Gun Rack

Conclusion

This is the safe for you if you are not too concerned with fireproofing or waterproofing. You are mainly looking for a secure safe to keep your rifles or shotguns locked up in.

The construction of this Sentry Safe G1459E is sound and if bolted to a wall it couldn’t be any more secure. It will provide a place for you to line up your guns safely and even has room on the shelf for other items.

This really is a great gun safe for anyone with a lot of guns looking to keep them in one organized place.

PROS
  • It doesn’t really look that big on the outside but the interior is very spacious.
  • The digital system allows fast access to get to your guns in an emergency.
  • Very stylish looking for a safe.
  • Can be used to store other items other than guns.
CONS
  • There is sufficient room for another shelf. If another shelf was needed I am sure another could be fitted with basic D.I.Y.
  • May not hold 14 fully scoped rifles. If all your rifles are scoped it may be best to just remove some of them after use.

Features

  1. Electronic lock.
  2. May be bolted to floor (hardware included).
  3. Meets California Department of Justice standards for firearm safety.
  4. Solid steel pry-resistant door with concealed hinges.
  5. 3 steel live-locking bolts.
  6. 3 dead bolts for added security.
  7. Hardened steel plate protects from drill attack.
  8. Adjustable shelf provides personalized organization.
  9. Carpeted interior protects priceless guns & collectibles.
  10. Durable black powder coat finish.
  11. Satin & bright chrome hardware with lever handle.
  12. 1 Year limited warranty.

Specifications

  • Exterior Dimensions: 59 x 21 x 17.8 inches.
  • Interior Dimensions: 58.7 x 20.7 x 12.9 inches.
  • Capacity: 9.1ft / 257lit

Gunvault MVB500 Microvault Biometric Gun Safe Review

Gunvault MVB500

Gunvault MVB500 Microvault Biometric Gun Safe

The Gunvault MVB500 is a small gun safe or “Microvault” that is specifically designed for handgun storage but can also be used for storing other small items of value. It offers the safety features of the standard and deluxe models with the added benefit of the bio fingerprint scanner.

The scanner allows you fast access into the safe without having to remember any code numbers.  It has a tough exterior construction but also has a soft foam filled interior to protect your valuables. For reliability it has a high strength lock mechanism that will prevent any attempt at lock picking.

Its construction also has precise fittings which will make it very difficult for anyone to try to pry the lid open with tools. As an added bonus there is a four foot high security cable included with the safe allowing you to attach it to any fixed object.

Who will benefit the most from the Gunvault MVB500?

For such a small safe the MVB500 has some pretty valuable features. It is an advanced or updated version of the MV500 and that is obvious especially regarding fast access. This feature is very useful in an emergency situation were maybe a burglar has entered your home and you need to get to your gun fast.

Gunvault MVB500 Microvault

The standard micro vault also offers fast access but with the difference being that you would have to remember your finger code sequence. In an emergency when we are in a panic trying to remember a sequence of codes may not be quite so easy. For some people this may not be a problem but for those of you who want that extra assurance that you can get to your gun without entering codes, then this upgraded MVB500 is the way to go.

If you have young children then you understand the importance of securing your guns. You may keep your pistol on top of or inside a drawer at your bedside nightstand so the weapon is close by in case of a break in. With children in the home this is something that could lead to accidental shootings if your child comes into the bedroom in middle of the night or while you are in another room and takes possession of your gun thinking it is a toy.

This minivault will keep the kids out because it only recognizes the fingerprints that have been programmed into the system. So even if the child places his or her finger on the scanner you can rest assured the lid will not pop open. This has been tested and proven.

Gunvault MVB500 Biometric Safe

The Gunvault MVB500 is compact enough to fit into a drawer offering fast access to your gun and total security from your curious child. Utilize this Micro vault as a temporary or bedside safety storage device for your gun when you are at home.

This is not a fireproof or waterproof safe and neither has it been created for high security. Its main intent is to keep unwanted hands out and to allow fast access for the owner.

If you are after something that will prevent a professional thief from getting in then I would look at a high security gun safe designed for this purpose. These types of safes tend to be much bigger and heavier and are usually fire and water resistant. They also come with a bigger price tag.

If you are away from home for days or weeks on end and want your firearms secured while you are gone then this isn’t the safe for you. However, it is possible to mount the safe into your car or truck to take with you. As a portable mini safe this is ideal, especially for those of you who are on the road a lot. Carjacking is still a problem in the USA.

Gunvault MVB500 Keypad

Gunvault MVB500 Design And Construction

The gauge of sheet metal ranges from 30 gauge to about 8 gauge. The larger the gauge number, the thinner the metal. The outside of this safe is constructed of 20-gauge steel making it lightweight and tough.

This is a sturdy safe but will not prevent a determined thief with the right tools from getting into it or walking away with it for that matter. The construction has been made with a very precise fitting so there are no gaps or spaces anywhere. This is adequate enough to maybe deter a casual thief and will most certainly keep the kids out, but someone with experience, time and the right tools will easily get in.

As mentioned above, this safes true purpose is to keep the kids out and to allow fast access to your gun when it is needed. To add more security remove the rubber foot pegs to reveal four holes that can be used to secure the safe to a table, shelf, floor, etc. I would certainly recommend bolting this unit down as it can be easily picked up with contents and all.

As well as the bolts you can use the included four foot security cable to wrap around a permanent fixture securing the Gunvault MVB500 in its spot. It can also be useful to secure the gun safe inside a vehicle if you take it on your travels.

There is soft foam on the inside in the top and in the bottom that does a great job of preventing any movement within the gun safe when in transit. It also helps prevent any unwanted scratching to your gun. A handy little tip is that if you lifted away the foam you can hide all kinds of small documents and even money underneath.

Its interior dimensions are 10.75 x 6.5 x 2 inches and it can easily hold one handgun and a couple of magazines, or 2 smaller handguns.

Gunvault MVB500 Fingerprint Scanner

Gunvault MVB500 Locking System

The gun safe uses an improved high strength lock mechanism run by GunVault Biometric Technology. This basically means it uses biometrics, specifically fingerprint recognition, for access to the safe contents.

You will need to slide your fingers completely across the sensors, and it will read your fingerprint. Within a second the gun safe springs open allowing you to access the contents. To have this working flawlessly, when first programming the unit it would be a good idea to input many different variations or positions of your fingerprints.

The way you position your finger as you slide it across the sensor, will affect its recognition. Programming fingerprints from both your hands is also a good idea. The Biometric system works well, and eliminates the need to search for a key however; it does come with two keys which can be used as back up in the event of low batteries.

The Gunvault MVB500 has an in-built self-learning algorithm that adds a new image to the fingerprint templates each time a user touches the finger print sensor. This will decreases the likelihood of your scan getting rejected.

Also its built-in computer blocks access after repeated invalid entries so even after many goes your child or any unauthorized person will not get into the safe.

Gunvault MVB500 With Key

Conclusion

This gun safe will not suit everyone who has a gun so it is important to read through the above sections to make sure its design suits your purpose. If you are looking for high security then I suggest you get a bigger safe but if fast access is your priority then this safe should definitely be considered.

This does a great job as a safe for securing your pistol while you are in the house or sleeping at night. The MVB500 is the right size for fitting into a drawer and even bolted into a car or truck. If you travel a lot in your car or just want to feel that added security when driving to the shops then this safe will be ideal.

Take note, if you plan on going away on vacation you may want to place this safe within a safe designed for high security, possibly with fireproofing. An overall very good gun safe for its price tag.

PROS
  • Good size for hiding away in places such as a drawer.
  • The opening procedure is simple and very fast.
  • The 4ft security cable comes in handy for attaching to areas for additional security.
  • Is a great unit for parents wanting to keep their curious children out of harm’s way.
CONS
  • There is a loud beep when the gun safe is opened. This cannot be stopped unless you find a way of removing the connections from inside.
  • As a small safe there is a risk of it being stolen hence the importance of bolting it down and using the included cable.

Features

  1. Exterior is constructed of 18-gauge steel.
  2. Soft foam on the inside protects valuables.
  3. High-Strength lock mechanism which performs reliably.
  4. Precise fittings offers pry-resistance.
  5. Built-in computer blocks access after repeated invalid entries.
  6. Tamper indicator alerts you to invalid entry attempts.
  7. Accepts up to 30 fingerprints.
  8. Includes a 4 foot security cable.
  9. 1 Year limited warranty.

Specifications

  • Exterior Dimensions: 11 x 8.5 x 2.25 inches.
  • Interior Dimensions: 10.75 x 6.5 x 2 inches.
  • Weight: 5lbs.

Program Fingerprints Into The MVB500

Before you can add extra fingerprints to the system you must first program the two main prints that you have chosen. These first two entries will be the administrator’s prints. Follow the steps below to get started.

  1. Press the Learn button until you hear a beep and see the green light flashing. This means that the system is ready for programming.
  2. Place your finger over the fingerprint sensor making sure your finger covers the whole area, (Fig 1, below).
  3. Keep your finger pressed down and now begin to slowly swipe in a downwards direction while keeping contact with the sensor, (Fig 2, below). Make sure your full fingerprint has crossed the sensor.
  4. When the swipe is completed you will hear a beep meaning that the system is ready for you to repeat the process one more time. Use the same finger and if all goes well you will hear two beeps.
  5. If a mistake occurs you will notice a flashing red light. This indicates that you will need to re-swipe.
  6. You will now need to get a scan for the second administrator. All you have to do is repeat the process in steps 1 to 4.
