LockSAF PBS-001 Biometric Fingerprint Safe
When you take a look at the reviews of the LockSAF PBS-001 gun safe you will notice the high number of positive responses there are. Good things are being written about the safe itself and the company.
So this made me wonder why they only have one of their products on the market. Is this one safe selling so well that they have no need to create another safe?
Many of you may be put off by the fact that LockSAF is not as well known as companies such as SentrySafe or Gunvault. Hence the importance of company name branding. However, in an industry that has a high rate of competition; it would be hard for even the better financed manufacturers to break into it.
I like to support the underdog, especially one that has created a gun safe that is seemingly flawless. Let’s take a closer look at this very tough and highly rated gun safe.
What The LockSAF PBS-001 Can Do For You
This is not a fireproof or waterproof safe, so if these features are a priority for you then you had best read through our fireproof safe reviews first. Seeing as the main purpose of this safe is to secure your handguns and allow fast access then fireproofing really isn’t a major issue. As far as quality features go this gun safe makes up for its lack of fireproofing in other ways.
I think in general there is one main reason why consumers choose to buy a biometric safe over the standard combination or key systems. Top of the list of priorities would probably be speed of use. If an intruder breaks into your home you are going to need to get to your gun fast. No fiddling around for keys or trying to remember combination codes. Just scan your fingers and up pops the safe’s lid.
With the LockSAF it takes 2 seconds or less to open if your finger is positioned properly on the fingerprint verification window. Now that is fast! You will have your gun loaded and ready in your hands in less than 5 seconds.
With this set up you can keep your handgun and clip in the safe and then have the gun safe placed in a drawer or nightstand. Easy access for you, but out of the hands and sight of your children.
Perhaps you don’t possess a hand gun but instead have expensive jewelry or a valuable heirloom. The LockSAF Fingerprint Safe is not just for firearms. Whatever you have that you want secured away can be placed in the safe, providing it fits of course.
LockSAF PBS-001 Design and Construction
This is one of the toughest if not the toughest small gun safe on the market. It is made with 9 gauge steel which is very tough for a safe of this size. The gauge of sheet metal ranges from 30 gauge to about 8 gauge. The larger the gauge number, the thinner the metal.
As you can see this is just 1 gauge from being as tough as a gun safe can be. In fact, this is twice the thickness of many other safes in this range. As you can imagine because of the thickness of its walls the LockSAF PBS-001 can be considered quite heavy for some people. This, in a way, is a good thing as there will be less chance of a thief running away with it.
To make sure something like that never happens there are four pilot holes in the bottom panel which can be used to mount the gun safe to a floor, or to any flat surface.
The locking mechanism is almost completely pick-proof and drill-proof, meaning it’s going to take someone a great deal of effort to get inside this thing. The gun safe comes with a set of mechanical keys that can be used as a backup if anything does go wrong.
This is a biometric fingerprint safe which means that only the persons, or person, whose fingerprints are programmed into the memory will be given access to it when the print is detected by the biometric reader. The PBS-001 fingerprint recognition window is located on the front panel of the safe. The reader has a very low rate of failure.
As long as you have your finger placed firmly on the verification window, it will read it. Your finger does not have to be placed exactly as you programmed it, but it should be as close as possible for faster reading. If your finger is slightly misaligned the reader will still recognize the print from the original template. However, if it is too much out of alignment, especially if the whole fingerprint is not on the window, then your print won’t be recognized.
The box will not open for anyone that does not have their fingerprint programmed. The fingerprint reader has a fail rate less than 0.01%.
At 14 x 10.2 x 4.6 inches there is plenty of space for pistols, plus some magazines and small box of ammo. Its interior dimensions will allow storage for items up to 12 inches or 30 cm in length. To protect all its contents the LockSAF PBS-001 has thick padding interior that will prevent any possible scratching.
Conclusion
This LockSaf PBS-001 is for someone whose priority is security. It wasn’t designed to withstand a fire or floods but instead to keep thieves and curious young children out.
At 9-gauge this is one of the toughest safes out there and security is high. It is easy to program and has a forgiving fingerprint scanner for a high scan success rate.
There aren’t really any fancy features to speak of. It is basically a strong box, a tough gun safe that will secure whatever you put in it.
