This Stack-On 22 long gun security safe is a good mid-range safe that will store a good number of your guns and ammo as well as keep them secure. It is not a fireproof or waterproof safe but does have a good few features that come as standard with most Stack-On security safes.
You have various options for storing your guns and generally can store up to 22 long guns such as shotguns and rifles. Its focus is on security so the bolting system is pretty solid as it the drill-resistant lock.
This is a good sized security safe with exterior dimensions of 26-13/16″ W x 17-5/8″ D x 55″ H and interior dimensions of 26.61″ W, 14.83″ D, 54.96″ H. This Stack-On 22 gun safe can be customized to store 22 Rifles or Shotguns up to 54″ tall, or 11 firearms and storage, or just all shelving storage. It has been approved by the CA Department of Justice as meeting their standards for firearm safety as per Penal Code Section 12088.
As with most Stack-On safes of this size they come with factory installed carpeting and adjustable shelving. There is also a large steel handle in the center of the door that easily retracts the live action locking bolts
This Stack-On safe is not a super heavy security safe at around 265lbs in weight so it may be a good idea to use the enclosed securing hardware attachments to bolt it to the floor. You can use the pre-drilled holes at the bottom just under the carpeting.
For those concerned about shipping and delivery, this safe is shipped via a freight trucking service. The company will call you to schedule a delivery appointment, so ensure someone is home at the scheduled delivery time. It is recommended that you have help available to move the item to its final location because the safe is available for curbside delivery only although that may depend on the delivery company.

There are also patented standoffs perfect for easy storage and protection of your scoped rifles. One of the very useful features on the Stack-On SS-22-MB-C 22 is the ability to swing the door fully open with no restrictions from the hinges. Being able to open the door wider gives you much better and easier access to the contents of your safe. This is a feature you will not see often among safes with concealed hinges.
Security
The Stack-On SS-22-MB-C 22 gun security safe features a 3-munber combination lock with a 2-way locking system. The lock build has a drill resistant, hardened steel plate behind it to prevent anyone getting in using a power drill.
The 1 inch live action locking bolts are located on the opening side of the door and locks in three places for higher security. Also, there are stationary steel bolts on the hinge side of the door which provide up to six locking points.
The locking security is pretty much the norm for Stack-On safes in this price category. This particular safe is not fireproof or waterproof so if these are important requirements for you I would spend a little more to get something like the Stack-On Total Defense 28 gun fire safe. The security safes in this range come as a basic 8 gun model to a fully convertible safe that holds up to 22 guns.
Things to consider
This Stack-On 22 gun combination security safe is not a high-end fireproof security safe but for its price is a pretty good mid-range offer. You get good security for your long guns but without the fire safety or water safety.
For a true gun collector this would be considered a kind of backup safe. It would be used to store the few guns that do not fit into their regular high-end long gun safe. It has a fair interior size for storing lots of ammo and other accessories as well as quite a number of handguns.
The door and locking points seem to be a solid design and the general overall construction seems plenty tough as well. The combination dial could have a smoother locking mechanism but all in all it rotates fine and never binds. The opening latch appears fairly well built enough to keep your firearms out of the hands of curious children. This safe is excellent for preventing 90% of the most common types of break ins which isn’t bad considering its low price point.
