This Tiger king BGX-D1-58JJH home security safe is the large version of this particular model. The small one has a capacity of 1.4 cubic feet and this one offers 2.05 cubic feet. Just by comparing the two you can see this one is just as wide but it is also taller.

It has similar features to its little brother with a few additional extras. Even though this can be considered a mid to high-end home safe I am impressed by the amount of useful features offered for a “not so expensive” safe.

This Tigerking safe has pretty much everything you need including a digital keypad, multiple locking mechanisms, a nice looking interior and exterior design, a secret compartment and a lot more.

Unfortunately, Tigerking didn’t go the extra mile to make this BGX-D1-58JJH fireproof and waterproof but I guess they had to keep to a specific price point. Adding those extras would have certainly raised the price.

So let’s look at some of the features this home safe offers.

This large Tigerking home safe provides a high level of anti-theft function as well as giving you plenty of interior space for storing your valuables.

The construction is very sturdy and made with durable thick solid steel making it hard for any burglar to try to break their way into it using tools.

There are thicker safes out there; however at this price range I would say this is one of the strongest in terms of thick outer casings for long lasting and reliable protection.

High security is where this safe shines as it is obvious that the designers made that a top priority. There are a total of 6 live-locking bolts and what makes this safe stand out from the rest, regarding high security, is that there is 3 sided bolt actions.

So there is a locking bolt at the top part of the door, the bottom part of the door and four live-locking bolts in the opening side of the door. This means prying this door open will be virtually impossible due to the fact that it is bolted in on three sides. Amazing physical protection from forced entry.

This Tigerking home safe also has a digital locking mechanism with additional manual override.

What this means is that you can programme your own digital combination in order to gain entry to the safe super-fast.

If, for whatever reason, you have trouble getting into the safe you can use the emergency override key. That is a very handy option if you forget your personal entry code.

If you want additional protection you have the option to use the secondary master key lock. This adds an extra layer of safety for your stored valuables because it will prevent entry by someone who has your personal code or your emergency key. With the Master Key only YOU will be able to gain access to the safe. Basically, you can deactivate the pin if somebody finds out what it is and use the master key instead.

To add to the security measures, this BGX-D1-58JJH digital safe has an alarm system that will go off if there are three- incorrect code entries. To stop the alarm just enter the correct code.

The interior is what you expect from a Tigerking safe. It is very spacious and well designed. There is a removable shelf that you can use to keep your smaller items organized.

It has a protective liner on it; however people have stated that the liner does eventually peel. Not a big issue especially seeing as you can add your own liner to the shelving.

The ability to remove the shelf means that you make more room for larger items. So if you are someone who prefers to stack items you can do so while using the majority of the space inside.

If you have smaller items that you want to secure even more then you can put them inside the top locking compartment which acts as a mini safe within a safe. This interior locking box will allow you to store things like keys, cash, jewelry, important papers and more.

At around 60 pounds in weight this is a fairly heavy home safe. The positive to this is that it is heavy enough so it would be hard for a burglar to carry out.

Overall, this is a really good, strong safe for its price range and should provide enough security for the average home user. It is a large safe so you need to make sure you have the room for it because it will not easily be hidden in the average sized closet.

Viking is a well-established company that launches good quality security safes at fairly low price points. There are three types of safe. The high-end safes that have very tough builds and are of the best quality. Those are the most expensive.

There are the smaller “home safe” versions which are good budget safes. Lastly, Viking has safes that are a bit of both high-end and budget.

The Viking VS-50BLX comes under that category; a sort of mid-range vault for the everyday user. It uses a bio-metric fingerprint scanner for locking and unlocking and, from what I have read; it looks like a lot of older folks love how easy this thing is to operate.

For many users this is an important point because modern fingerprint scanners can look a little intimidating to people who were born in a not so technological era. With the ever decreasing availability of the older style dial combination safes, people have to get used to these new biometric scanners.

So ease of use is a huge plus for this fingerprint security safe as well as offering a number of quality features at a good price point. Let’s look at some of those features.

This large Viking VS-50BLX bio metric safe is nice looking and well-designed. It weighs around 43 lbs. (20 kg) so it is fairly heavy but not so much that two strong guys couldn’t lift it and move it around. You should be able to get most items stored including full sized A4 documents, (unfolded), passports, other important paperwork, digital media, jewelry, cash, phones, gold, silver, handguns and a whole number of other personal valuables.

There is are three fully adjustable shelves that can be used to keep your smaller items in one place, however they are a little flimsy and so it maybe best keep your heavier items at the bottom of the safe. Also, you can remove the shelving to allow for even more space for bigger items.

If you happen to open the safe in a dark room there is a handy built in LED light that helps to illuminate the interior. The whole interior is also fully carpeted which I think is a nice touch.

Regarding security, I would say it is better than average when compared to other safes in the same category. It has a pry-resistant door with a tightly sealed solid steel outer casing. There are two 20 mm thick solid steel locking bars that are deep inside the top half of the door frame.

Personally I think two more locking bars could have been placed on the bottom half of the door too for even tougher security but of course that would have raised the price point.

When activated, the two bolts slide into the safe frame and lock into position. A useful feature here is if the door is left unlocked a beeping sound will go off.

The locking system uses a digital biometric fingerprint reader and a digital LCD keypad for easy use. The scanner is a top of the range upgraded 500 DPI optical sensor which means it is a lot more sensitive to reading prints. This helps when trying to get into the safe fast as there is a lot less fiddling about trying to reposition your finger to obtain the best scan.

You can scan and save up to 32 fingerprints for multiple people, which is plenty. Having more fingerprint saves in the memory means you can scan your print multiple times at varying placements to help to speed up entry. If you want quick entry then scanning your finger at different angles and saving them is recommended.

There is of course a PIN code option which consists of 4-8 programmable digits. As a double backup, you have a numeric keypad combination lock as well as a key lock system, to gain entry. You get a set of 2 four prong override cross keys for back up so there is little chance of you locking yourself out for whatever reason.

This Viking bio metric safe also has a time out period setting so that after 5 incorrect PINs or 10 incorrect fingerprints attempts the safe will stay locked down. You can then use the included override keys to get in.

Overall this is a very good quality home safe that will be of benefit to the average home owner. Is this a high-end, high security safe? No, but for this price you will struggle to find better.

It will keep the casual thief out and even a pro burglar with tools, (depending on how long the burglar has and what tools they have), but I would not rely on it for storing super expensive items like stacks of gold or cash, etc.

If you want a digital safe that has the best security then expect to pay a minimum of $1000, and that is on the low end. For what you pay for the Viking VS-50BLX you get a quality, stylish, tough, modern, digital fingerprint safe that does exactly what it is supposed to.

This Tigerking BGX-D1-43JJD home security safe is nice looking and well-designed that offers quite a number of very useful features. The product description boasts a “high level of anti-theft functions” which may or may not be true depending on the circumstances.

If you look at its construction, it is made of tough solid steel plate material, although at this time I am not sure of the actual “gauge” of the steel.

This is standard for most security safes in this category; however it does have a strong locking system which includes four 1- inch solid live-locking bolts. These are in the opening side of the door which itself is a 2.8 inch thickness.

One of the downsides here is that the designers decided to place the reset button just on the inside of the closing side of the door. This is not a big deal if an opportunistic thief trys to break in, however an experienced burglar may have the skills to find a way to get to that reset button.

Just something to consider if you decide to store VERY valuable items in this safe box. Having said that, no safe is impossible to break into and with the right tools, the right skills and enough time, a good thief could break into most safes.

As mentioned above, this Tigerking home safe has some very cool security features which I think increases the chances of your stored items staying where they are supposed to be.

One of these features is the sound alarm. If someone tries to access the safe via the keypad and inputs the incorrect code more than three times, an alarm “beep” will sound off. This beep will last for 60 seconds or until someone inputs the correct code.

This is very handy if you have curious kids in the house who begin to play around with the keypad; trying to get into the safe.

To get into the safe you need the digital combination, and once that is punched into the keypad getting access to your valuables will be pretty fast. As with many safes of this size, if you have trouble getting the door unlocked you can use an emergency key which will override the code.

I think what makes this particular security safe box stand out from the rest is the fact that it has a secondary lock that you can choose to use if you want that little bit extra security. It is a master key lock and is designed for additional protection.

When you use this option, if someone, with the correct code, tries to get into the safe they will still be shut out if the secondary “master lock” is activated. I think this is a very cool additional locking feature that will certainly increase the security.

You can change the password whenever you want and if you do happen to forget it, you can use the master key plus the emergency key to unlock the safe. For this reason, make sure you don’t leave the emergency override key lying around where anyone can get hold of it. Hide it somewhere safe and hide it well.

Lastly, let’s look at the interior.  This Tigerking BGX-D1-43JJD has a removable shelf which can come in handy if you decide to store larger items. You can also move the shelf up or down to increase or decrease the space used to keep things that much more organized.

The storage size is 1.4 cubic feet with internal measurements of 15.5 inch height, 15 inch width, 10.5 inch depth.

Not huge but certainly enough for a number of items such as medium sized laptops of up to 13.3 inches, pistols, cash, passports, jewelry, electronic media and even unfolded full size A4 document papers.

Bear in mind, if you do decide to store documents and electronics it would be advisable to have a silica dehumidifier in the safe to absorb some of that condensation that may occur if the door is kept closed for a long time.
